Gallnut is typically used as a mordant for cellulose fibers at 10-12% WOF.
Quercus infectoria: From the Aleppo Oak. Oak galls are abandoned wasp nests that grow from oak trees. A tiny wasp sets their larvae on the tree, and the tree reacts with it's tannin and a nest is formed around the foreign substance. The wasps grow and leave, and the nest dries and becomes useful! It provides a high tannin base for fabrics to accept natural color, without having much color of it's own.
Modifier: Iron for soft grey. Use 30% WOF and above for color use. But it's best used to prepare your cellulose fibers for color.
