Botanical Name: Butea Monosperma is a species of Butea native to the tropical part of India and SouthEast Asia. It is commonly known as flame-of-the forest, bastard teak and Palash. It is used for timber, resin, fodder, medicine and dyes. The flowers are used to prepare a traditional Holi color and also our dye for fabric. In India dried leaves are used to make disposable leaf plates and leaf bowls to serve food, but both the flowers and leaves are used in Indian traditional medicine. It gives textiles vivid orange and yellow hues, depending on the soaking time, pH, and temperature. Great to over dye indigo dyed pieces as well!
