Botanical Name: Caealpinia Sappan Sappanwood belongs to the Gulmohar family and is a small thorny tree. It is also known as Patranga which is one of the most important herb in the Ayurvedic medicine system. It is a multipurpose tree which is also used for medicinal, cosmetic purposes and as a safe natural colouring agent. It is sensitive to pH change and will turn color. Add chalk to obtain red. By combining different metallic mordants it displays good fastness towards washing. It has medicinal properties such as anti-inflammatory activity.
