Explore dyeing with nature, specifically using the magical bundle dye methods.
In this workshop we talk about mordants and modifiers and how they relate to this particular dye method. 3 different pots will be prepared so that students can experiment the many ways you can use heat, steam, and minerals to bring different results and change the colors of plants and flowers.
All materials provided. Each student will receive silk and cotton or linen sample pieces and a silk bandana and cotton bandana. You will leave with sample materials and a final piece or two.
We talk about the materials needed to dye with nature along with a little history on the ancient process. You'll be introduced to the different fabrics you can use and all the materials needed to begin the process. We discuss the differences in shades a dye material will leave and the different ways that you can modify them by using the different dye pot stations. After all that you are let lose to get creative! Students grab what they want to sample out how the process works, unveiling as we go along, so you know how to conquer your final pieces.
Class runs about 2 hours and be prepared to take damp work home.
