Natural Organic Indigo Dyeing Kits // Henna, Iron or Fructose

Have you tried to dye with indigo yet? Try out this kit and get hooked! If you're already hooked, and just need the 3 ingredients choose the size option and make sure to write in the notes at check out which reducing method you want.

Now offering three different kits in three sizes. The iron vat is great because you do not have to keep the vat at higher temperatures while dyeing, but it does not dye wool as well. It will, but it can become a bit brittle. Fructose vats are great on all fibers, but does require you to keep at 110 degrees when dyeing. And new! henna vat with a special blog post here. Henna vats have a great tone and earthy smell to them, and here's a blog post to help you out. You can use the blog post for the other versions as well but you don't have to "wet" iron or fructose when you add. Here's the video for an iron vat!

The small sized kits will dye a 1 kg (2.2 lbs) of fiber a light to medium shade of blue. It's a good size to just try out indigo for the first time or dye a smaller item. You can also use this size to refresh your vat.
The large kits will dye 2 kg (4.5 lbs) of fiber a dark blue, and there will be enough indigo left in this vat to dye other items a slightly lighter shade, too. (The dye baths will get lighter as you dip more and more.) Medium size somewhere in between.

*You’ll need a non reactive pot to mix your 3 ingredients and dye with. Though the iron vat can be transferred into a bucket once mixed. 

Estimated sizes: small kit 1-2 gallon, medium 3-4 gallons, large 5-6 gallons.

Small kits come with 1oz/28g indigofera tinctoria

Medium kits come with 2oz/56g indigofera tinctoria

XLarge kits come with 4oz/114g indigofera tinctoria

Each kit comes with an emailed info pack (if a gift, it is assumed they will need the print version), marbles, a glass jar to hydrate your indigo, calcium hydroxide (hydrated lime), and your choice of reducing agent. Pick henna, iron (ferrous sulfate), or fructose. Also citric acid for helping to fix your dye, or "neutralize" rather. Packed in two clothe bags, which you can dye!
